Some people like to compare it to other movies to bash it, when you should just compare it to other Star Wars movies. The problems with the love story aside, this is a Star Wars movie. The sleep-inducing fireplace scene is one while the "sand is rough" scene is another, despite how amazing Natalie Portman looks in both.

There are seriously two scenes that could have been removed from the movie that would have really sped things up to a more acceptable pace. While the movie does move quickly between the love story and Obi-Wan's quest, the stilted and just plain bad dialog in the Anakin/Padm¿ scenes is one of the only things that drags the movie down. While away from his master, the Padawan develops a forbidden attachment to the beautiful senator and delves into the Dark Side by slaughtering some Sand People. On one hand, Obi-Wan is off investigating an assassination attempt on Padm¿, while Anakin protects the senator as she returns to Naboo. Attack of the Clones fixes that problem by developing two storylines that come together at the end of the film. The Phantom Menace reminded me a bit of Jedi where the movie kept switching between three different stories, only no one really cared about the story threads in Episode I. Episode II fixes many problems that plagued its predecessor, most noticeably in the pacing and story structure. Padme is no longer the queen of Naboo, but rather a senator, and the galaxy faces war as multiple star systems have begun to succeed from the Republic. Anakin Skywalker has grown into a young man, and is still the Padawan learner to Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Movie Ten years have passed since the events in The Phantom Menace. On disc two you'll find three documentaries including "From Puppets to Pixels", which is done in the same fashion as the popular "The Beginning" documentary and runs for about an hour. Disc one includes the movie in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen with a great Dolby Digital 5.1 EX soundtrack and commentary by George Lucas, Rick McCallum, Ben Burtt, Rob Coleman, Pablo Helman, John Knoll, and Ben Snow. Thankfully, the two-disc set is even better than the Episode I DVD in almost every department. Obviously, the DVD has a lot to live up to. After a couple of disastrous battles, which Dooku learned the Jedi had been manipulated into fighting by unscrupulous politicians seeking to advance their personal agendas, he refused to accept any further missions from the Council, becoming increasingly withdrawn and concerned about the course the galaxy was following. Dooku joined up with Sidious after becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the Jedi Order and their allegiance to a Senate that he saw as fatally corrupted. Answer: Allowing nebulous emotions like caring to influence their actions is not generally part of the Sith game plan.
